How to Host an Island Themed Party

It’s no secret that in the middle of the summer, we’re all thinking about escaping from the hustle-and-bustle of work to lounging on the warm sands of the beach. Once the sun goes down, the party begins. With the scent of pineapple and flowers in the air, and grass skirts and leis dancing in the breeze, a party on the beach with is a dream. Make that dream a reality for you and your friends by taking them on an adventure and hosting an island themed party this summer.

Now, unless you just so happen to have a beach in your backyard, or have an extra ton of sand within reach, you might not be able completely replicate the sandy vibes of an actual island. However, there are plenty of other things you can do to take your guests away for a night of tropical fun

A Pig Roast.
Feeding your guests is a must. Make it fun and adventurous by roasting a pig on a spit (and can be easier than you think). Though this is an all-day venture, it can be a focal point for your guests to watch and help out with. Click here for a guide to roasting a pig.

Lei-Up.
Tell your guests to sport their best island-getups! Buy premade leis at the store, or use them a fun activity for the kids by having them making their own. Grass skirts are also a great complement to any island-themed party, and give a fun, whimsical look when the dancing begins.

Beachy Décor.
Bring out that brightly-colored umbrella and decorate your backyard (or any location of your choice) for a beachy bash. Use island-themed napkins or consider a nautical napkin color scheme to make you table setting pop. Using fresh flowers and fruits to top the table and other surfaces around your party can create a tantalizing aroma. Hoist some tiki torches into the ground and you have yourself a great light source (and something to keep the bugs away).

It’s Five o’clock Somewhere.
The finishing touch to any island soiree is a flavorful, colorful, and boozyful (That’s a word, right?) cocktails for your guests. Try out a Watermelon-Jalapeno Margarita or Seaside Sunrise to give your guests a refreshing splash.
