Event Recap: Annual Graceland Lighting Ceremony
Thousands of people from all over the world flock to Memphis to spend the holidays like the king, and celebrate Christmas at Graceland. The cornerstone event of the season is the Graceland Lighting ceremony.
On the east side of Elvis Presley Boulevard, facing Graceland Mansion, a celebrity guest such as Trisha Yearwood or John Stamos, “flips the switch” that turns on 13.8 acres of traditional blue and multi-colored lights and lawn ornaments that the Presley family used. Festivities include a cape-clad Santa Elvis and sometimes musical performances by celebrity guests.
Mahaffey is a proud supporter of this event and provided the stage, tent and a long walkway that gave hundreds of guests access to view the annual lighting ceremony.
After a major expansion, Graceland changed the landscape and geographic footprint of the complex. Despite the event happening in the same general area, Mahaffey installers scheduled early site visits and made recommendations based on ground density and weather forecasts for the outdoor event.
In previous years that have included a musical performance, Mahaffey provided an open-air stage in addition to a platform with sturdy floor and seating options. However, since this year required no performance, Mahaffey provided a tent option above the stage that also left room to see the lights and decorations as they were illuminated.
